A Perfect Meal

Thinking about today’s Daily Post word of the day, I did a little research on the topic, gave it a little thought, got hungry and had a sandwich for lunch.  The sandwich is such an important part of our American lifestyle that we eat 300 million sandwiches per day.  Sandwich shops are everywhere, and are easy places to pick up a quick meal for families on the run.

I had a hot dog for lunch, which I think of as a kind of sandwich, but I do remember a social media discussion to the contrary.  To me the shape or style of the wrap, roll, or bread doesn’t matter.  Some type of sandwich is my normal lunch.  Hubby normally eats a sandwich, using an English Muffin, for breakfast.  Normally my sandwiches are simple, portable, and do not require a plate.  With a little meat, a few vegetables, and a good bread, a sandwich can be a complete, portable meal.

I recently heard of a group doing a sandwich crawl.  This is a variation on a dinner club, visiting local sandwich shops together once a month, with a preference for locally owned shops.  This delightful idea brings people together in a casual way, is well within the budget of nearly everyone, and provides a much-needed boost to the non chain businesses. For people like myself, new to the area, this is an excellent introduction to the area.

Some of my favorite sandwiches include:  a French Dip (surprisingly easy to make), Peanut Butter and Honey (loved by children, and a perfect snack for adults), Ham and Cheese (grilled or toasted), Egg Salad (love it with olives), Tuna Salad (an easy lunch),  a Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato (a sandwich no one can mess up), a Sub or Hogie (with plenty of variety), a Taco  or Quesadilla (for a little change), and this list can go on and on.

What is your favorite sandwich?
